Musk, the absolute king of fragrances. Revered in countless religions and cultures since ancient times, being used by royalty, as well as in sacred and religious ceremonies. Poets would write couplets to its greatness and compare its scent to the remembrance of their lover.

Musk finds its most detailed and emphasised place within the Islamic tradition, being mentioned in the Qur’an and in the sayings of The Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ numerous times. Famously referred to as the best fragrance by The Blessed Prophet ﷺ and used by Him ﷺ personally.

Sufi poets would compare musk to the cleansing of one’s soul, as the musk deer’s blood enters its musk pod and is transformed into the grains of this precious substance. The Sufi cleanses his heart and character with patience and sincere good actions, transforming himself into something more noble.
