Where can I buy natural attars in the UK?

I’m based in the UK and ship across the UK and internationally. Attar Boutique carries hand-blended attars, animalic infusions — musk, ambergris, civet, castoreum, and hyraceum — and Mysore sandalwood oil. Everything is made from natural materials in small batches, with no synthetics. If you’re new to the collection, 0.2ml samples are available for every product. Where can I buy animalic infusions in the UK?

As far as I’m aware, I’m one of the very few people in the UK making genuine animalic infusions — real musk, ambergris, civet, castoreum, and hyraceum, each macerated by hand and matured for years before being sold. These are not synthetic approximations. The Attar Boutique animalic collection has been in development since 2019 and is available to buy online with UK and international shipping. Does Attar Boutique support charitable causes?

Yes — a portion of every sale goes to charitable causes. This has been part of how I’ve run this business from the start. In 2026, during Ramadan, I created Baqāʾ — a charitable attar made solely to raise funds for Gaza. Every cost was covered personally so nothing was diverted from the cause. Through the support of everyone who contributed, £10,650 was raised for Revive’s Gaza appeal, going directly to food aid for the people of Palestine.

Why choose Attar Boutique?

Everything here is made by hand, in small batches, from natural materials. No synthetics, no fillers, no shortcuts. I blend by nose — adjusting until each fragrance feels whole — and I price everything as fairly as I can. The goal has always been honest perfumery that doesn’t require compromise. If you’re not sure where to start, samples are available for every product in the collection.

What is Attar?

An attar — sometimes spelled ittar or itr, from the Persian word for perfume — is traditionally an aromatic material distilled directly into sandalwood oil. The sandalwood absorbs and preserves the distilled essence, creating a concentrated, long-lasting perfume oil. The tradition stretches back centuries across the Islamic world, from the early distillation work of scholars like Ibn Sina to the master craftsmen of Persia and India.

Over time the term has come to include natural oil-based perfume blends more broadly — often called mukhallats. Whether distilled or blended, the tradition is the same: patience, natural materials, and craftsmanship over shortcuts.

What is Sandalwood Oil?

Sandalwood oil is extracted from the heartwood of trees in the Santalum genus. The most prized is Santalum Album — native to India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia — known for its warm, creamy, woody character and its use as a base in traditional perfumery. Australia also cultivates Santalum Album alongside its native Santalum Spicatum. Other species include Santalum Austrocaledonicum from Vanuatu and Hawaiian varieties such as Santalum Paniculatum.

Osyris Lanceolata and Amyris Balsamifera are sometimes sold under the sandalwood name but are not true sandalwoods — they share some aromatic characteristics but lack the depth and creaminess of the genuine article.

The Mysore Sandalwood Oil in the collection is Santalum Album, distilled in 2017.

What are Animalic Infusions?

Animalic infusions are rare fragrance materials of animal origin — musk, ambergris, civet, castoreum, and hyraceum — macerated by hand into high-quality carrier oils and left to mature over months or years. Each one in the collection has been infused into Mysore sandalwood or another fine base oil, and none are sold until they’re ready.

These are not synthetic approximations. The materials are ethically sourced and the collection has been in development since 2019.

Why are your attars expensive?

The honest answer is that the materials are expensive and the process is slow. Natural, rare ingredients — real oud, Taif rose, vintage tuberose, genuine musk and ambergris — cost significantly more than synthetics, and I don’t substitute. Everything is blended by hand over months of testing.

That said, I price as fairly as I can. This isn’t about inflated luxury — it’s about covering the real cost of doing things properly. If you want to try before committing to a full bottle, samples are available for everything in the collection.

How do you use attar?

Attars are concentrated, so a small amount goes a long way. Apply by dabbing directly onto pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears. The fragrance will develop with your body heat, revealing different layers over time. Oils project less than alcohol-based sprays and tend to sit closer to the skin, which is part of their character.

If you want something with stronger projection, Nashwa is the most expansive in the collection. For something quieter and more intimate, the ambergris infusion is a good place to start.
